Alumni Weekend 2011
was August 25, 1pm - August 28, 3pm
Alumni Weekend was eventful to say the least. The weekend was
shortened due to Mother Nature and we were ordered to evacuate camp
on Saturday afternoon. Aside from the chatter around camp, you would
never know a massive storm was bearing down on New England and our
cherished Camp Hale. Alumni at camp were split on their train of
thought. Some wanted to ride the storm out at
Camp, as Chief John would have done, and others wanted to air on
the side of caution and get home to their loved ones.
The Alumni Weekend Committee had to modify the weekend schedule
many times to accommodate the abbreviated weekend. The weekend consisted
of 59 guests and with 6 first timers. The new chef, Mike Cowan,
from Boston College was a great addition to the weekend. His four
support staff did an excellent job, not just in the dining hall
but also with the cabins and campgrounds. A big thank you to all
of them. The food flowed out of the kitchen in abundance and was
topped off by a traditional New England Clambake meal. It was incredible.
Job well done.
The auction was moved to Friday night to ensure it was not cancelled.
We had 50 participants and totaled $4219. Some
quality items were donated and they fetched great prices. They included
sports tickets and paraphernalia, camping equipment, and restaurant
gift certificates. Thank you to those who spent the time
gathering and donating those items.
Our annual poker night followed the auction and drew a big crowd.
The big winner on top was Sean Hayes for the second year in a row.
On Saturday we held our annual meeting in the Rec. Hall.
No surprises there. After lunch we had a brief prayer service, by
the logs, for Mr. Will Jackson who we recently lost. His brother,
Nate, accompanied us at the service. Mr. Will you will be greatly
missed.
The weekend weather was excellent. Activities around the docks
consisted of alumni swimming and fishing and running short canoe
excursions out of camp. We also had movies in the library, ping-pong
in the Rec. Hall, and horseshoes in the courtyard. Overall, the
weekend was a big success and the Alumni Weekend Committee thanks
all that participated.
